Heat and Entropy

Postby Tinisha 1G » Wed Feb 13, 2019 12:44 pm

Why would you need to use the heat equation before solving for entropy with a temperature change?

Since this equation for entropy change is in the form ∆S=nCln(T2/T1), you could use the "heat equation" q=nC∆T to solve for C if you know q, which you would then use for the entropy calculation.

multiple steps allow you to figure out the values all components necessary to use the formula

It is a multi-step process where first you use q=nCΔt and rearrange the equation to solve for the specific heat because the specific heat is needed to solve for ΔS=nCln(T2/T1).
