How do you know whether to use Cv=(3/2)*R or Cp=(5/2)*R?

We use Cv when at constant volume and Cp at constant pressure.

Also, Cp = 5/2R and Cv=3/2R are only used for monoatomic ideal gases.

Also, whenever you see that volume isn't constant, but you account for it in another "delta S =" equation, you can still us Cv.
