How do you change the internal energy of an ideal gas?

I'm confused can someone explain to me how the internal energy of an ideal gas changes? Does doing work on the system affect it at all?

I believe one way to change the internal energy of an ideal gas is by manipulating the temperature, as this changes the enthalpy of the system.

Internal Energy of a monoatomic ideal gas is equal to 3/2nRt

We can't change R because it is a constant, so I believe the only way to change the internal energy is to change moles (n) or temp (t)

You can change the work done on the gas through changing the volume (making delta V not equal to zero). Like someone else said, you can also change the temperature of the system, which would therefore change q and the internal energy. I hope that this helps!
