Could someone explain the difference between positional disorder and residual disorder?

I think they may be referring to the same thing. In the textbook, I believe they were used interchangeably.

Positional disorder is when there are more positions for a substance to fill, like if a substance spreads out into a greater volume, it will have greater positional disorder. Thermal disorder occurs when a substance heats up, and there is more disorder because there is an increase in motion in the molecules from the thermal energy.
