Trouton's rule
What exactly is Trouton's rule? I saw it on a practice problem and can't remember if we learned it yet.

I do not remember learning this yet, but that could just be because I have a bad memory. So, if anyone else remember I would like to know as well.

Re: Trouton's rule
Trouton's rule basically says that the entropy of vaporization for all liquids is around the same value.

Re: Trouton's rule
Trouton's rule basically states that various types of liquids possess similar entropies of vaporization at their boiling points.
The enthalpy of vaporization divided by the boiling point of the liquid is the entropy of vaporization for a particular liquid.
I am also unsure of whether we discussed this rule, sorry about that!

Re: Trouton's rule
Hello! Trouton's rule states that the entropy of vaporization for many liquids is the same at 85 J mol. This does not apply to every liquid, but rather a significant portion of them.
