interchanging q rev and deltaH

Postby Anna Lockhart 2B » Sun Feb 21, 2021 10:04 pm

Under what conditions are we allowed to make deltaS=qrev/T into deltaS=deltaH/T?

I believe we can use this in isothermal processes.

I don't think there are necessarily any conditions to use those equations interchangeable since they're basically the same thing since deltaH is the change in enthalpy which is just another way of saying the heat of the system

Would there be specific problems where we would be using this equation? What keywords should we be looking for in order to use these equations.

Pretty sure we can use the equality q=deltaH when the reaction is under constant pressure since all of the change in enthalpy is in heat and not expansion.I think the easiest way to figure out which equation to use is to see if you are given the temp and qrev or values needed to calculate qrev on your own.

Isothermal processes and constant pressure are the most common ones that are able to utilize this

I believe you can interchange qrev and deltaH when the system is at constant pressure. Because at constant pressure, deltaH = q, we can interchange these two values in the expression deltaS = qrev/T
