Entropy surroundings v entropy system

Postby sofiarips » Wed Mar 13, 2024 8:14 pm

For isothermal, reversible expansions is the change in entropy of the surroundings always equal to the change in entropy of the system? Like in problem 4I.9

Yes in a reversible reaction, the change in entropy of the surroundings is equal to the change in the entropy of the system, just negative.
This is because Change in Entropy(system) + Change in Entropy(Surroundings) = 0
