Solution Manual Error Not Yet Spotted? (8.63c)

Postby jennifer_zhou2C » Mon Mar 07, 2016 3:57 pm

I don't know whether anybody else has posted about this, but I saw this error today after review some chemistry problems and did not see it in the solutions manual error page. In Chapter 8, #63c, the problem asks you to find the standard reaction enthalpy. The equation is:
H2S(aq)+2KOH(aq)->K2S(aq)+2H2O(l).

In the solutions manual, it states that the standard enthalpy of formation of K2S(aq) is 417.5 while in the book it states that the standard reaction enthalpy is 471.5 (See Appendix 2A pg A13). This throws off the answer quite significantly (it goes from an exothermic reaction to an endothermic reaction). I'm pretty sure this a solutions manual error (and if not, could someone please explain why?) Thanks!

You are correct, it should be 471.5.
