For this problem, I was just wondering what the difference was between $\Delta S^{\circ }_{f}$ and $\Delta S^{\circ }_{r}$? Thanks!

I believe that delta s of f is the formation and delta s of r is the reaction.

How do we know when we need to use the standard entropy change or formation and when to use the standard entropy change of reaction?

For this problem, you are finding ΔS(rxn) by using ΔS(m), the standard molar entropy (which is the entropy of 1 mol of substance).
Use ΔS(rxn)=ΣnΔS(m)(products)-ΣnΔS(m)(reactants)

I think ΔS(rxn) refers to the entropy of the entire reaction, and ΔS(f) refers to the entropy of formation of a substance.
