Higher Molar Entropy

Postby Cynthia Ulloa » Mon Feb 11, 2019 4:06 pm

How do we determine which molecules will have a higher molar entropy? and what is residual entropy?

Molecules with more bonds, or are in gas phases will have more entropy because more microstates and states are available. Residual entropy is the structural entropy left over when a system is cooled to 0K

Molecules that are more complex (larger in size) are the ones with higher entropy. Also, residual entropy is the difference in entropy (left over in the system) when it is at absolute 0 Kelvin.

Molecules that are more complex, have more possible disorder, or are larger have higher molar entropy.
