Molar Entropy

Postby Jessica Esparza 2H » Sat Feb 08, 2020 2:11 pm

What takes precedence when comparing entropies between gases, the degeneracy or molecular weight?

I believe the degeneracy takes precedence over the molecular weight

For a gas, when trying to calculate molar entropy, the degenerate states mainly determine the entropy.

Since molecular weight can be similar between different gases, it would be reasonable to assume that degeneracy can truly distinguish them apart better.
