Relationship between Delta S Surroundings and Delta S System

Postby ashwathinair » Mon Feb 10, 2020 7:58 pm

Other than del(S surr) + del(S sys) = del(S univ), how are del(S surr) and del(S sys) related? Like how can you find del(S surr) if you only have del(S sys) or vice versa? What other information would you need for that? Also, under what conditions might del(S surr) = -del(S sys) be true - in other words, what makes del(S univ) = 0? Thanks!

deltaS(surr)=-deltaS(sys) only under reversible conditions. So this means isothermal.
