Units for entropy, enthalpy, and GFE

Postby Hannah Lee 2F » Mon Feb 10, 2020 10:52 pm

Are the units for standard free energy kJ or kJ/mol? I thought it was given in kJ unless the question specifically asked for the molar Gibbs free energy but the solutions manual gives them all in kJ/mol. I also assumed the "mol" would cancel out of the units. Or is the solutions manual referring to kJ/mol rxn?

Would it matter which unit we used in the test? (eg kJ/mol or kJ or kJ/mol rxn)

Entropy should be J/K, enthalpy is kJ/mol, and I think GFE is kJ/mol but I also did notice that the solutions guide switched around, so I would assume that maybe you can leave it as kJ, but I don't think its wrong to have kJ/mol because the moles don't really cancel out I think it just means thats the amount for one mole of that whole reaction.
