Entropy and spontaneous reaction

Postby VarshiniC » Mon Mar 20, 2023 4:02 pm

Is ice melting a spontaneous reaction because entropy is increasing as the system is going from being a solid to liquid?

Yes, the melting of ice is a spontaneous reaction because the process increases the entropy of the system. As ice melts, its molecules gain energy and move more rapidly, leading to an increase in disorder and randomness. This increase in entropy is the driving force behind the spontaneous melting of ice.
