Predicting Gibbs Free Energy Sign

Postby Victoria_Reimers_3L » Sun Jan 31, 2016 11:38 pm

Are you able to predict the sign of the Gibbs free energy for a reaction given only the temperature, and if so, how would you do this?

No, because it is also dependent on the enthalpy of the reaction.

Gibbs Free Energy is dependent on temperature, entropy, and enthalpy. A high temperature can still be multiplied by a positive or negative value of change in entropy, so just knowing the temperature does not give the sign of the Gibbs Free Energy value.

you can't predict it based on just temperature. you would need enthalpy or entropy or both
