## Balancing chemical equations for Delta Gr

$\Delta G^{\circ}= \Delta H^{\circ} - T \Delta S^{\circ}$

$\Delta G^{\circ}= -RT\ln K$

$\Delta G^{\circ}= \sum \Delta G_{f}^{\circ}(products) - \sum \Delta G_{f}^{\circ}(reactants)$

### Balancing chemical equations for Delta Gr

Hi,
I was wondering when your balancing chemical equations for Delta Gr are there any rules like there are for Gf, or delta Hf, where you must have only one mol of product so reactant coefficients may need to be in fraction form?

For example in one of the past midterms (2012 question 6A) the reactant oxygen is balanced with a fraction. Is this always the case? Is it wrong to balance with whole numbers but then get more than one mol of product?

I don't think delta Grxn has to be in per mole unit. You can balance the reaction using integers and after calculating the Grxn, it will just be multiples of the given answer. They essentially mean the same thing if you convert your answer to per mole.
