Derivations of Equations

Postby Emma Ward 2C » Sat Feb 10, 2018 5:20 pm

For the midterm, are we going to need to know how to derive the Gibb's free energy formula?

I don't think so. I think he said we don't have to in class.

The derivations are just nice to know in order to understand the relationships of each term with another, but it's not necessary for the midterm.

I doubt that we would have to know any other equation other than those provided on the equation sheets. The derivations are taught most likely to provide a basis of understanding on where the equation came from and how they relate to one another, rather than just name dropping a formula.

The Van't Hoff equation isn't on the equation sheet, so that derivation would probably be nice to remember.
