Gibbs free energy
I know that it won’t be on the midterm, but what else does calculating Gibbs free energy tell us besides whether or not the reaction is spontaneous?

Re: Gibbs free energy
It also tells us the free energy of a system at any point in time. The fact that it a state function makes it easier to calculate as you would with dH° and dS°.

Re: Gibbs free energy
If the value is negative, then it's spontaneous and favors product formation and if the value is positive, then it's non spontaneous and does not favor formation of products.
Re: Gibbs free energy
It tells us about spontaneity of a reaction, work and can be used to calculate the equilibrium constant.

Re: Gibbs free energy
Also, Dr. Lavelle said in lecture that Gibbs free energy only refers to situations where the system is not at equilibrium, since delta G when the system is at equilibrium is zero.
