gibbs free energy
I was wondering how the change in gibbs free energy relates to the spontaneity of a reaction?

If delta G is negative, the reaction is spontaneous.
If delta G is positive, the reaction is not spontaneous.

If the change in Gibbs free energy is positive, then the reaction is not spontaneous. If the change in Gibbs free energy is negative, then the reaction is spontaneous.

Do spontaneous reactions have to occur quickly? Or do they just happen randomly?

If a reaction is spontaneous, it can either be spontaneous with all temperatures, spontaneous with low temperatures, or spontaneous with high temperatures. You can tell by looking at the values of delta H and delta S.

If free energy is negative (-) then the reaction is spontaneous and if it is positive (+) then the reaction is not spontaneous (requires energy).
