work and Gibbs Free Energy

Postby Deepika Pugalenthi 1A » Fri Feb 15, 2019 12:21 pm

How is work equivalent to Gibbs Free Energy? Is work done by the system when Gibbs Free Energy is positive?

Gibbs free energy is the amount of non-expansion work that can be taken from a thermodynamically closed system which can attained only in a reversible process. Delta G is positive in a non spontaneous process at all temperatures.

If Gibbs free energy is negative, that means the process is spontaneous and releases energy. Free energy is described as the energy that is available to do work.
