Spontaneous Reactions

Postby Jenna Salas 2H » Sun Feb 17, 2019 11:57 am

What does it mean when a reaction is spontaneous? In other words, what is happening to the molecules of a spontaneous reaction? Does spontaneous mean that the reaction happens more quickly than normal?

Spontaneous means the reaction is happening on its own, meaning there is no extra energy input require. Exergonic reactions are spontaneous since they happened without the addition of energy.

A spontaneous reaction essentially means that the reaction will occur without the need of an energy input. That is to say, the reaction will proceed on its own, as someone else has already put it.
