Temperature

Postby Nahelly Alfaro-2C » Sun Feb 17, 2019 4:51 pm

Based on the temperature a reaction has, how can one know if reaction being favored is forward or reverse?

More information must be given in order to determine whether a process will proceed in the forward or reverse direction. The change in enthalpy by the reaction is particularly important as you can determine whether the reaction is endothermic or exothermic.

If a reaction is endothermic, increasing temperature will favor the products while decreasing will favor the reactants. Conversely, if a reaction is exothermic, an increase in temperature will favor the reactants and a decrease in temperature will favor the products.
