Re: Delta G a state function?
Free energy is a state function, because it involves enthalpy and entropy, two other state functions.

Re: Delta G a state function?
The acronym "PD TV HUGS" help with remembering the state functions. They are: pressure, density, temperature, volume, enthalpy, internal energy, gibbs free energy, and entropy.

Work is NOT a state function because it depends on the path taken to get to the final result.

Work (w) and heat (q) are NOT state functions.

Re: Delta G a state function?
Delta G, or just Gibbs free energy, is a state function. This means that you can apply the properties state functions have such as the properties you use for enthalpy and entropy.

Re: Delta G a state function?
Yes delta G is a state function because it is defined by other state functions.

work and heat are the only things we've learned about that aren't state functions

along with work, heat is also not a state function

Re: Delta G a state function?
Delta G is a state function, as it is made up of other state functions since as enthalpy and entropy

Re: Delta G a state function?
yes it is a state function, and can be added like enthalpy and calculated in very similar ways

Basically anything that isn't part of "PD TV HUGS" are not state functions.
Examples of things we've learned now that are NOT state functions would be: work (w), heat (q), and cell potential (E)
Re: Delta G a state function?
Gibbs Free Energy is a state function, all the properties of the equation deltaG = deltaH - T(deltaS) are also state functions.
Re: Delta G a state function?
Yes and I remember because Lyndon said once he was "Feeling a little Pressured and Dense. He wished he could just watch TV and get HUGS.
(PV TV HUGS).
(PV TV HUGS).

Re: Delta G a state function?
It's a state function due to its upbringing that stems from the incorporation of two other state functions: Enthalpy and Entropy
