9.63 Positive delta G
Why are compounds with a positive free energy of formation (delta G) unstable?

Re: 9.63 Positive delta G
Hi! A negative dG of formation means that the G of reactants is greater than the G of products, so if free energy decreases, the end product is more stable. Lower energy means more stability.

Re: 9.63 Positive delta G
For even more clarification, this would mean that the more free energy that the reaction has, the less stable it will be in general. More energy means less stability.
Re: 9.63 Positive delta G
A positive delta G indicates that the reaction is nonspontaneous, or nonfavorable.
