If there is less disorder in a system, then entropy is negative.

A change in entropy can be negative if energy is able to escape the system. Technically, in the universe, entropy is always increasing, but if we only consider the earth as a system, then entropy can decrease.

An example of this would be a liquid being cooled into a solid. The molecules have less possible positions and therefore have less entropy leading to a decrease in entropy or negative entropy change.
