Entropy based on shape of molecule

Postby AditiSax » Wed Feb 27, 2019 11:16 pm

How are we supposed to predict which form of a certain molecule possesses the lower residual entropy based on their positional disorder? (cis vs. trans)

Trans has the higher entropy because it is able to occupy more possible positions.

In general, the more complex the molecule is, the higher the entropy because it can be rearranged in many different positions.

entropy is greater for more complex molecules, so trans would be greater entrophy
