## importance of -RTlnk

$\Delta G^{\circ}= \Delta H^{\circ} - T \Delta S^{\circ}$

$\Delta G^{\circ}= -RT\ln K$

$\Delta G^{\circ}= \sum \Delta G_{f}^{\circ}(products) - \sum \Delta G_{f}^{\circ}(reactants)$

### importance of -RTlnk

what is the importance of delta G=-RTlnk if the reaction at equilibrium does no work?

I believe it's simply showing the relation of K to free energy in a way that K replaces Q to show no work has been done for a reaction at equilibrium.

"K is the constant of a certain reaction when it is in equilibrium, while Q is the quotient of activities of products and reactants at any stage of a reaction." Therefore, this equation depicts delta G at equilibrium.

I think that it's important if you only have the equilibrium constant and temperature of a reaction, therefore you wouldn't need to find enthalpy or entropy to measure delta G.

K is the equilibrium constant where the equation will not change if K=Q then the standard change in gibbs free energy is zero. so we get the equation from $\Delta G=\Delta G^{\circ}-RTln(Q)$ to G=-RTlnK

### Re: importance of -RTlnk

∆Gº=-RTlnK is derived from the equation ∆G = ∆Gº + RT lnQ; if the reaction is at equilibrium and no work is being done, ∆G is equal to zero and Q=K which is where the equation comes from.

### Re: importance of -RTlnk

it demonstrates how K depends on temperature when combined with the gibb's free energy equation Δ G = Δ H − T Δ S

### Re: importance of -RTlnk

I think its importance is linked back to the way temperature affects it
