factors of Gibbs free energy

Postby Kaylee Clarke 1G » Fri Mar 13, 2020 5:19 pm

why is reaction free energy dependent on pressure and the equilibrium constant?

The equilibrium constant, K, shows where the system reaches equilibrium, so that no work is being done by the system (Gibbs=0). Different value of Q will show how much work a system can do, and the spontaneity of the system. Because the Gibbs free energy shows the maximum available work a system can do, and work is related to pressure, a change in pressure will affect the Gibbs free energy.

delta G is more positive when the partial pressure of the product/s increases.
delta G is more negative when the partial pressure of the reactant/s increases.
