Midterm 6B

Postby Maya Gollamudi 1G » Sun Mar 15, 2020 6:37 am

Q6B. For which process will ∆Ho and ∆Go be expected to be most similar? Ans ____A (3pt)
(A) 2Al(s) + Fe2O3(s) → 2Fe(s) + Al2O3(s)
(B) 2Na(s) + 2H2O(l) → 2NaOH(aq) + H2(g)
(C) 2NO2(g) → N2O4(g)
(D) 2H2(g) + O2(g) → 2H2O(g)

Do you have to calculate both delta H0 and delta G0 to determine the answer to this question?

For this one, I used conceptual reasoning that because A is the only rxn with all reactants and products as solids, it will have very small changes in S, therefore dG and dH should be similar. :)

I chose a because the states of the reactants and products were similar thus an entropy change will not be too large, which implies a similar delta H and delta G

For this question since the answer choice a has reactants and products all as solids in the same phase, there will be almost not entropy change.
