Why do we use this

Postby Andrew Greene 3H » Sat Feb 17, 2024 12:07 pm

I know Dr.Lavelle went over this in class, but I was a bit confused on what exactly we would use this for. If someone could give me an example, that would be great.

I can't see what you are referring too! Would you be able to update your post with what "this" you are referring too?

Assuming you're referring to the topic of this sub, the Van't Hoff Equation, it is used when we want to calculate a constant K at different temperature assuming that the delta H is given. Its derived form, ln(K2/K1) = (-∆Hº/R)((1/T2)-(1/T1)) is used most to solve for K2 and questions will usually be asking for this K2 value.

In the most simple form the Van't Hoff equation is used when we are trying to look at changes in a state function. It can estimate change in enthalpy and entropy of reactions.
