When to use

Postby Seungyeon_Chi_1K » Fri Feb 23, 2024 12:36 pm

When would it be the most ideal to use the Van’t Hoff equation?

Generally, this is used when one is given a temperature change and standard enthalpy and is trying to solve for a change in an equilibrium constant (or vice versa, solving for temperature change given a change in equilibrium constant).
Hope this helps!

Since we learned earlier that temperature is the only factor that actually changes the equilibrium constant, K, this equation helps us find how K changes due to a temperature change! When using the equation, we are assuming that delta H and delta S of the reaction remains constant over the temperature change (which is not always realistically true).
