Application of Van't Hoff's Equation

Postby Anastasia_3B » Tue Mar 12, 2024 1:22 pm

When is it appropriate to use Van't Hoff's equation when you are learning to predict changes in equilibrium constants during a change in temperature.

The main application of the Van't Hoff Equation is to calculate K at different temperatures when delta Hº is known. This allows us to examine the temperature dependence of K, the equilibrium constant.

The Van Hoff equation is useful in predicting how K will change as temperature changes. However, you also need to know your change in enthalpy as well when trying to make this prediction.
