### Derivation

Since we go over derivations in lecture, is it necessary to know how to derive the equations we learn or simply how to use them?

I would suggest knowing how to use the equations and how to derive them. Though we may not be asked on an exam how to derive a equation, understanding where an equation comes from will help you know how and when to use it.

I don't think it would hurt to know the derivations, especially because knowing/understanding them could potentially help with conceptual questions.

It's unlikely the derivations will appear on a test since we're given the equations, but as the above users have said it would be helpful to know them since understanding them would help you know how to apply them.

I believe you should understand that this equation comes from the two Gibbs free energy equations that we have learned.

You don't necessarily have to know the steps on how to derive the equation, but it would be helpful to know where the equation comes from so that you can be able to interchange between equations if you needed to, and also so that you can understand the equation and know when it can be applied.

You should at least know how to derive the Van't Hoff equation and how to get work for an reversible process.

I think its essential to know that the vant hoff equation relates temperature to the equillibrium constant and you get this by setting the two gibbs free energy equations equal to each other. always think critically about which information you are given and therefore which equation would be the best to solve for what you need. this derivation is not hard so do not overthink this.

I think the equations that we need to know are given to us on the formula sheet.
