Overview

Can someone please give me a brief explanation or overview of the Van't Hoff Equation? Thanks!

It gives the equilibrium constant (lnK) as a function of (1/T), by knowing K1, T1, you can calculate K2 at T2

Basically the Van’t Hoff equation is used to calculate the equilibrium constant when the temperature is different as long as you know dH. It shows the temperature dependence of K, the equilibrium constant.

it relates the change in the equilibrium constant, Keq, of a chemical reaction to the change in temperature, T, given the standard enthalpy change, ΔH, for the process.

The Van't Hoff Equation can be used to calculate K at different temperatures, if you know the standard change in enthalpy.

If you want to find the new K value when the temperature changes, using the Van't Hoff equation will allow you to find the second K value given you have the original K value.

Yes, the test should specify or it should be obvious by the given values.
