Temp Units

Postby Henry Krasner 1C » Wed Mar 06, 2019 11:10 am

What is the unit of temperature we use in the Van’t Hoff equation? K or C?

I believe you would K units for temperature.

It would be in K. Think about the units for R! They all need to cancel out

The units must cancel out. K cancels with the other units, so use K.

K. If given C you should convert using K=C+273.15

Kelvin! When you write out the Van’t Hoff equation, the K cancels out from the R constant.

You would use Kelvin (K).

For the Van Hoff equation you use units of K for temp, and if given in C, convert by adding 273.

^Kelvin would be the units used, however if you get confused just remember that the gas constant R in the Van't Hoff Eq has units of J/K *mol.

Pick your R according to the correct units.
