equilibrium and gibbs energy

What is the connection between equilibrium and Gibbs free energy and in what scenario would it be helpful to utilize this connection?

At equilibrium, the delta G of the reaction is 0. Think about G as the potential energy of a substance. When a reaction is at equilibrium, then the potential energy of the reactants and the potential energy of the products has to be equal, so there is no change in G. This is then useful for deriving the Van't Hoff equation, which we went into detail on how it was done in class. And the scenario the Van't Hoff equation is useful for is for when we know the delta H naught of a reaction and want to know the equilibrium constant at a different temperature.

At equilibrium, delta G is 0 because the equation for it is deltaG= -RTlnK, and if K is at equilibrium, then K =1 and taking the natural log of 1 would give you zero.
