delta s

Postby Ghadir Seder 1G » Sun Feb 16, 2020 6:29 pm

Why do we assume delta s naught is constant in the van't hoff equation?

delta S naught is the entropy of the reaction at standard conditions. Since standard conditions are defined, delta S naught will be a constant/always have the same value.

This is because delta S naught is the standard entropy of that reaction, therefore making it constant. We then have to include the temperature to show how the observed entropy can change depending on how you change the different parameters such as temp.

ΔS° is defined as entropy change in a set of standard conditions. ΔS° won't change for a given reaction unless those standard conditions do.

Delta S is constant in the Vant Hoff equation because the change in entropy of the system at equilibrium is constant. Delta S doesn't increase because it has reached its maximum.

Delta S won’t change under standard conditions.

It won't change unless standard conditions are changed

Because delta s won't change in those conditions!

Delta s does not change, both s values may change but the difference between final and intitial remains constant.
