Van't Hoff Equation

Postby Sean Phen » Sun Feb 21, 2021 9:27 pm

How do you solve for K in the van't hoff equation? I was confused on how to get the ln out and isolate K.

To take the ln out, you raise everything with a base e on both sides. Hope this helps!

You can get the ln out by raising e to the power of both sides of the equation! For example, if ln K = X, then K = e^x

Using e^(ln(k2/K1)), the antilogarithm e^x, on both sides is how you cancel out the natural log!

The way you cancel out ln is raising both sides of the equation with base e.

you would simplify out the difference in temperatures multiplied by delta h over R and then take the e of both sides to isolate out the K.

Following up with this question, does anybody have some advice as to how to solve problems with some form of calculus involved? I never took any in highschool so it's still quite difficult to grasp.

I don't think this class will require you to solve problems using calculus, but if you need help, Dr. Lavelle has a lot of resources available to you.

you have to cancel out ln by raising both sides by e. Then you can isolate K.

Raise e to the power of both sides to cancel out the ln!! Then divide/multiply depending on the K value you want!

You can solve the K by raising e to cancel the In, then isolate K by either multiplying or dividing K. Hopefully this helps! (:
