Why ethanol?

Postby Rachel Russell 4B » Sun Feb 07, 2016 10:56 pm

The book says that the new fuels scientists are developing are mostly organic compounds like ethanol. Why are we researching fuels like these if they still contribute to global warming and require significant amounts of energy and water to produce? Why aren't we pursuing clean energies like solar and wind more?

Even though ethanol has negative side effects on the environment, scientists and researchers are still pursuing this idea because we need to diversify our energy resources. Ethanol comes from crops, so it's a less carbon heavy option. It might not be the best for our environment, but it's certainly a better source for reducing carbon.
