Hydrogen or water as fuel?

Postby Marisol Meneses 2C » Mon Jan 30, 2023 8:51 pm

Hi! I was just reading through these posts and I remembered different fuels I had read about. Is it possible to have an engine run on hydrogen or water? If not, why not?

Hydrogen fuel cells are currently used.

The combustion reaction is: 2H2 + O2 <---> 2H2O

I might cover this in class when I discuss redox reactions.

Hi! I wanted to add that I am very interested in sustainable power, and if you are too, you might enjoy some of these articles about hydrogen fuel cells being used to power just about any kind of transportation! The fuel cells are cheap, reliable, and produce only water and heat as waste. I think it is interesting to investigate these different ways to use chemistry to improve the way we interact with the planet!
