Reversible reactions

Postby Nicholas Ryan 2K » Fri Feb 09, 2024 6:33 pm

I know that basically all biological systems involve irreversible reactions. Are there any biologically significant reversible reactions? If so, what do they do?

Hello,

Yes, many biologically significant reactions are reversible. These reversible reactions allow cells to adapt quickly to changes in energy demand or the availability of substrates, enabling efficient regulation of metabolic processes such as glycolysis and the citric acid cycle. They facilitate the dynamic balance between anabolic and catabolic pathways, which is essential for homeostasis and cellular response to environmental changes.
