Sapling #5 (week 7/8)

Postby Jessica Luong 3K » Mon Mar 15, 2021 7:39 pm

Identify the oxidizing and reducing agents in the skeletal (unbalanced) reaction. Then, balance the reaction, including the phase (solid, liquid, etc.) of each species. The reaction takes place in basic aqueous solution.

Cl2O7(g)+H2O2(aq)⟶ClO−2(aq)+O2(g)

I'm having a problem balancing this equation and I'm not sure if I should just add an H to the right side. Can someone help me with this?

I remember this one took me a lot of time to figure out as well. The way I did it was I started by some H+ and electrons on the left side and water on the right side. Then after balancing that I added as many OH- to both sides as there were H+ so that on the left side all the H+ get converted into water and the right side has some leftover OH-
