redox reactions and biology

Postby 906013563 » Sun Mar 17, 2024 9:06 pm

could someone explain the role of redox reactions in a biological systems like cellular respiration? and if nonredox reactions occur in biological systems and how common they are or are not

While nonredox reactions are essential for various cellular processes, they typically do not play a direct role in energy production like redox reactions do in cellular respiration. Instead, nonredox reactions are involved in maintaining cellular structures, facilitating biochemical reactions, and regulating metabolic pathways

In biological systems like cellular respiration, redox reactions play a critical role in energy production. These reactions involve the transfer of electrons from one molecule to another and occur in several stages, like glycolysis, the Krebs cycle, and the electron transport chain. Non-redox reactions are also common in biological systems and serve various functions, like anabolic reactions, enzymatic reactions, and structural maintenance.
