determining half reactions

Postby Kaylee Yan 4C » Fri Jan 29, 2016 7:06 pm

how do you know how many electrons, H+, and H20 to add to each side of the half reaction and to which side you add it to? is there a quick way of determining this?

Here are some steps to guide you in balancing redox reactions in acidic solution:

-Identify the two half reactions
-Balance the reaction for all elements except hydrogen and oxygen
-Add water molecules (H2O) to balance the number of oxygens
-Add protons/hydrogen ions (H+) to balance the number of hydrogens
-balance the charges by adding electrons
