Redox Reactions

Postby CenCen » Tue Feb 23, 2016 1:07 am

If the question for a redox reaction asks you to name which is the reducing agent and which is the oxidizing agent is that different from when another question asks which is being reduced and which is being oxidized?
Thanks. :)

Yes it is different.
The reducing agent is oxidized and the oxidizing agent is reduced.
If you think about it, oxidation and reduction come in pairs. The oxidizing agent (molecule that causes other molecules to lose electrons) cannot also lose electrons; it must be reduced. The opposite goes for the reducing agent.
