Electrolysis

Can someone please clarify electrolysis and why it is different than cell potential in a galvanic cell?

In electrolysis, the voltage come from an outside source, and not from the reactants spontaneously. Thus, the Eo is non spontaneous and negative in electrolysis reactions. When you add the Eo of reactants, you want your total Eo of the reaction to be as negative as possible instead of as positive as possible like for spontaneous galvanic cell reactions.
