Balancing H

Postby manasa933 » Mon Feb 19, 2018 12:19 pm

In basic solutions, after balancing O, do we balance hydrogen by adding an equal number of hydrogens to the other side by adding water or do we add an equal number of H20 to the number of hydrogens?

ex: if there are 6H on the right, do we add 3H to the left or 6H20?

I think you have to add H20 to one side and H+ to the other! So if you add hydrogen ions to one side it should be H20 on the other side. There are helpful worksheets on Lavelle's website under "Redox Reactions" if you want to look at that too.

For basic solutions, to balance O's we use water. Then to balance H's, we use OH's and H2Os on both side.
