Oxidation Agents
So are oxidation agents different from what is being oxidized? I'm confused as to what the terminology is referring to.

Oxidizing agents are being reduced and reducing agents are being oxidized because if the substance is being reduced, that must mean its gaining electrons from somewhere which means it's causing another substance to lose electrons. This is why the one being reduced is called an oxidizing agent. Just remember the agents are opposite of what's happening to them.

Reductions Agents are oxidized in the half-reactions who lose electrons.
Oxidizing Agents are reduced in the half-reactions who gain electrons.
Oxidizing Agents are reduced in the half-reactions who gain electrons.

Oxidizing agents cause other species to be oxidized by accepting their electrons, themselves being reduced in the reaction.
Reducing agents cause other species to be reduced by donating their electrons, themselves being oxidized in the reaction.

The agents and what is being done to them is reversed/opposite.
oxidizing agents are themselves reduced
reducing agents are themselves oxidized
oxidizing agents are themselves reduced
reducing agents are themselves oxidized
