Is there a difference between balancing a redox reaction and a normal reaction?

When you balance a redox reaction, you have to also balance the charges as well, which means that you have to keep in mind the number of electrons.

Also, while balancing redox rxns, it helps to know the typical oxidation states of for example, group 1, group 2, halogens, etc. You need to know these to help you balance charges

Balancing redox reactions requires a balance of charges. Since in normal reactions we don't look at charges, there is no need to (charge of 0 will always balance out with 0).
