What is the purpose of a salt bridge and a porous disc?

In the cell, electrons move from the anode to the cathode which would make the cathode extremely negatively charged. If left like this, electrons would not travel toward the cathode any longer due to the buildup of a negative charge there. The salt bridge helps maintain a neutral state for both solutions by allowing negatively charged ions such as chloride to move toward the anode side, allowing more electron movement to the cathode.
